A deep vein thrombus can break loose and travel through the bloodstream to the lung. This is called pulmonary embolism and can become very dangerous.
A person with deep vein thrombosis may or may not have symptoms. The symptoms may include pain in the legs and swelling, Before taking any long trip, Forever Grand Vacations suggests you visit your family doctor and tell him or her that you will be travelling by either car or a long plane flight or even bus ride and you are concerned about DVT since your movement will be restricted. If you are driving then make frequent stops at rest areas and go for short walks to loosen up and get the blood flowing.
